Funding
The creative writing program offers students several funding opportunities. Fellowships, awards, and summer funding make it possible for our students to advance their work and focus on writing.
Fellowships:
The creative writing program offers four competitive full fellowships for third-year students. Each fellowship carries a stipend of at least $10,000 plus tuition waiver. Students apply for these fellowships in the spring of their second year.
Also available to creative writing students are two major partial fellowships of $10,000 each to support students doing final thesis work. These two fellowships do not carry tuition waiver.
The program also offers numerous smaller fellowships, ranging from from several hundred dollars to several thousand. Many of these smaller fellowships are awarded to incoming students and some are reserved for continuing students. None of these smaller fellowships carry tuition waiver.

Awards:
The creative writing program hosts a series of writing awards (6 awards total) judged by well-published writers from outside the program. MFA students are encouraged to submit work by the posted deadline each spring. Award recipents are decided by an outside judge. Judges for each contest are annouced each year when the new deadline for submissions is established.
