Visiting Writers' Program Kicks Off

Despite the prospect of snow and gloomy weather, a packed room heard Leslie Pietrzyk read from her new story collection, This Angel on My Chest, Monday night to launch the spring 2016 program of visiting writers.

As faculty member Courtney Brkic reported the next day, “there was a great turnout…despite the iffy weather. Maybe about 70 people, including our MFA students, undergraduate students, and some audience members who were neither.”

The next visitor, poet Philip Metres, reads Wednesday, March 2, at 7:30 p.m., in Room 163 of the Research Building.

March 21-24 is New Leaves week, with visitor Porochista Khakpour reading on Monday, the 21st, at 7:30 p.m., in George’s (Room 321) of the Johnson Center. Nonfiction writer Leslie Jamison reads on the 22nd, at 7:30, in Grand Tier III, Center for the Arts.

Huan Hsu, an alum of Mason’s nonfiction MFA program, reads from his book on Wednesday, April 6, at 7:30 p.m., in Room 163 of the Research Building.

The spring program winds up on Tuesday, April 12, with poet Jean Valentine. Her reading, also at 7:30, will be in Room 163 of the Research Building.
