Section Information for Spring 2017

English 396 (Introduction to Creative Writing) and 397 (Poetry Writing) are prerequisites for this class.

This intensive workshop will focus on both student work and the reading and discussion of books of poetry and essays on poetics. We’ll explore the creative process, the role of the poet and artist in our society, and find various ways to enter the dynamic conversation of contemporary poetry. Expect to produce poems (or pages of poetry) each week; comment, both verbally and in writing, on the work of your fellow students; occasionally lead discussions of our weekly reading; and write some critical prose in response to our course’s texts.

Permission is required for admission. Please send a sample of approximately 6 pages of poetry to Heather Green (hstreckf@gmu.edu) for consideration.

This course may be repeated for a maximum of 6 credits with permission of instructor.

ENGH 494 001 enrollment is controlled. Please email Professor Green (hstreckf@gmu.edu) for permission to enroll.
