Section Information for Spring 2020

As the catalog warns this workshop course will demand intensive practice in the writing of poems.  Everyone will be encouraged and expected to write every week, although each week only some students will present work. During class, we will discuss about 4 or 5 poems, reading them closely before suggesting any workshoppy revisions. That’s the simple plan. The only further requirements are that you EITHER apprentice yourself to another poet for the duration of the term OR that you set aside one week for intensive writing. By apprentice yourself I mean read one poet intensively, listening and thinking about how they go about making poems. I’ll expect 2 poems to come of that apprenticeship. By intensive writing I mean writing a poem each day for 6 out of 7 days in a week. I’ll expect at least 2 drafty poems to survive first revisions.
