Sherlock

This course surveys works featuring or inspired by the world-famous consulting detective Sherlock Holmes. Much of the semester is devoted to the original novels and stories written by Arthur Conan Doyle, examining them within the historical context in which they first appeared. The balance of the syllabus explores film and television adaptations of those original tales as well as fiction by other authors working within (or reworking elements of) the traditional tales. Sherlock Holmes fighting the Nazis? Sherlock as an action hero? Sherlock as a sociopath? As we’ll see, one of best-known characters in all of literature is adaptable to his times, whatever era you find him in.

ENGH 202 DL8 is a hybrid distance education section. Students should expect to be online during the days and times scheduled.
