Section Information for Spring 2019
Are dystopian fictions uncanny windows into the future or cautionary tales about disasters we might yet avert? This course explores how anxieties in the present shape our interpretations of the future, and we will cover everything from climate change to technology to totalitarianism. The course includes some outside reading but your own writing will be the focus, both in the form of in-class exercises and workshopping. The class is open to all MFA students, whether or not you have previously written dystopian fiction.
