Renowned author and MFA faculty Habila's latest book, The Chibok Girls: The Boko Haram Kidnappings and Islamist Militancy in Nigeria releases on Monday, December 5th. Kirkus Review describes the novel as "a passionate testimonial on behalf of the 218 Chibok girls still missing."
Helon Habila applies a journalist's eye and a novelist's sensibility to the 2014 kidnapping of 276 girls from Chibok Secondary School by terrorist group Boko Haram. Through intimate interviews with the family members of those taken and a thorough exploration of the conditions that give rise to terrorist groups like Boko Haram, Habila deftly delves the historical and social contexts of this major world event.
