Kate Bryan Honored with the 2025 Mary Roper Award

Kate Bryan Honored with the 2025 Mary Roper Award

Kate Bryan has been the English department's scheduling and fiscal coordinator since November 2022. She joined the department in June 2019 where she was previously the receptionist/administrative assistant, and she has been a pillar of the community ever since.

During her employment, Bryan was also selected as George Mason University's Employee of the Month in October 2020 where she was celebrated for her work in the department's online presence and digital design, her fiscal expertise, and her welcoming personality.

Bryan was asked what makes her so dedicated to the department. She quickly responded with "these are my people!"

When Kate is not scheduling classes for the upcoming semesters and managing department purchases, you can find her enjoying live music, encouraging others to find their own form of self care, Irish dancing, and proudly cheering on her children in their extracurricular activities.

Please join us in congratulating Kate Bryan!

The Mary Roper Award honors a classified staff member who has shown outstanding service in support of the core goals of the college – improving the quality of the liberal arts experience for all students, increasing the capacity for noteworthy and innovative scholarship and creating and strengthening external relationships. The recipient directly supports the mission of the department or college through his or her work with faculty, students, staff or the greater university community.

Bryan will be honored at the CHSS Staff and Administrative/Professional Faculty Awards on Wednesday, December 3rd at 10:00 a.m. at the Center for the Arts, Third Tier Lobby.

The college holds a reception each fall to honor the award recipient as well as other outstanding staff members. This event is open to all members of the College of the Humanities and Social Sciences.

The award is named for Mary Roper, who worked in the Department of Biology and in the dean's office of the College of Arts and Sciences for a total of 14 years.
