Section Information for Fall 2026
This course will be both an introduction to Native American and Indigenous literatures and a field guide to the undead presences in Haunted Native America. We'll consider how and why Indigenous hauntings, ghosts, monsters, and other creepy presences and absences speak to traumas, local environments, colonial (and other) horrors, efforts to secure Indigenous futures, and more. What do Indigenous ghosts and monsters want? More broadly, what's happening in Native American and Indigenous literatures right now? Join us for an autumn of thought-provoking and spooky readings and discussions! And find out why you should never whistle at night.
