Buchanan Hall, Meese Room
Prize-winning poet Gregory Orr has been named this year’s presenter of the Ellen Anderson reading at George Mason University on March 27. The event is a joint venture of the Poetry Society of Virginia and the Creative Writing Program at George Mason.
Orr, who has published more than ten books of verse as well as a memoir, is the recipient of a Guggenheim Fellowship, two poetry fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts, the Award in Literature by the American Academy of Arts and Letters, and a Rockefeller Fellowship at the Institute for the Study of Culture and Violence. He teaches at the University of Virginia, where he founded the MFA Program in Writing.
The Ellen Anderson Reading of the Poetry Society of Virginia honors Ellen Anderson Glasgow (1873-1945), a Virginia poet and novelist who was influential in the growth of the arts in the Commonwealth. The co-sponsorship of the event this year with GMU represents an attempt by the Society to integrate its work more closely with the academic community and other interested groups.
